Community Submitted Questions

(Updated May 29, 2017)

  • How many students are coming to Danforth from Greenwood SS?

Approximately 300 students will be making the transition from the 24 Mountjoy Ave. location to the new location for Greenwood SS within the Danforth CTI school building at 800 Greenwood Ave.
  • Why is this happening?

When the Pupil Accommodation Review process was conducted (see question #2 for information on the PARC), it was determined that TDSB school buildings in the area had excess space. The Danforth CTI building has a capacity of approximately 2200 students, but has under 900 currently registered. Even with the addition of 300 students coming as a part of Greenwood SS, there will still be significant space available within the 800 Greenwood building.
  • Will my child’s education be affected?

There are significant resources being put into ensuring that educational experiences for students will not be negatively impacted. All rooms that will be occupied by Greenwood SS in 2017-2018 are being renovated to ensure that they meet the needs of Greenwood staff, students, and community partners. Within Danforth CTI, rooms affected by the move are also being “fit-up” with fresh paint, repairs, and furniture as needed for the programs now offered there.  As discussed by the transition committee, there are even opportunities for collaboration between the two schools that may result in more opportunities for students to participate in co-curricular activities and combined school / community events.
  • Is the school still in the same location or is it being switched, is Greenwood joining Danforth?

Greenwood SS will be moving from the location at 24 Mountjoy Ave to the 800 Greenwood Ave location currently occupied by Danforth CTI. Both schools will continue to operate separately within the same building.
