Mental Health Week Announcement!  Just as physical fitness helps our bodies to stay strong, mental fitness helps us to achieve and sustain a state of good mental health.  When we are mentally healthy, we enjoy our life and environment and the people in it.  We can be creative, learn, try new things and take risks.  We are better able to cope with difficult times in our personal and school lives.  We feel the sadness and anger that can come with the death of a loved one, relationship problems and other difficult events, but in time, we are able to get on with and enjoy our lives once again.  Eating well, getting enough sleep, staying physically active and learning good ways to deal with day to day stress can help you maintain your mental health.  During lunch we will take a walk around the track to promote and raise awareness of mental health.  Come join us out on the field at lunch and show your support!!  T. Maestri

Mental Health Week Announcement!  If a friend or family member is experiencing mental health problems, it is important that you let them know that it is okay to talk about their feelings and thoughts.  Listen and offer support rather than trying to contradict them or talk them out of it.  Let them know you care.  Research shows that teens are most likely to tell a friend about concerns that they have regarding symptoms of a mental illness.  Unfortunately, a friend might be a great listener but might not be the best person to get help.  You can be a better friend by looking for signs and symptoms of mental illnesses and helping someone you know reach out to some of the following people: family doctor or paediatrician, teen health clinic, school counsellor or teacher, parent and other family member, psychologist, psychiatrist, social worker, kids help line and emergency department at a medical facility.  T. Maestri
