Last night at the “XhibitArt14” opening reception, the Danforth Visual Art Department and students showcased their work at Todmorden Mills Papermill Art Gallery.  It was a spectacular event.  The artistic flair, creativity and originality of Danforth students were on display.  Oils, watercolours, clay, computer media, collage and photography mediums were all used to create a transcendent event of sublime work.  Richard Ha’s “Self Portrait” and Izzy Wrigglesworth’s “Ophelia” captured the AGO Awards, while Nina Buis “The Wand” and Jalal Kashief-Guy’s “Anonymous Warrior” won the above Ground Art Supplies Awards.  A big thank-you to the Culinary Arts department and the Music department that infused the evening with nourishment for the body and the soul.  Thank you also to all the staff, parents and students who attended to make the evening special.  The event continues until April 20th; Wednesday to Friday noon to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday noon to 4:30 p.m.  S. It’s here!  The best art show of the year!  XhibitArt14, an exhibition of work by senior Visual Arts students, opens Wednesday, April 9th at Todmorden Mills, 67 Pottery Road.  The opening reception takes place from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  See you there!!  C. Jokinen

Two Danforth science projects have been selected as semi-finalists in the Clean Tech Competition.  Nelani Skantharajah and Rosie Hadzipetros looked at how ferrofluids can be used to clean up oil spills.  Kelly Ng and Chelsea Chow researched how to use algae to extract energy from the hot waste water from out power plants.  These two projects were chosen as two of just 50 semi-finalists from across North America.  Each team has won $300 and have a one in five chance of being selected as finalists to take their project to New York?  R. At least 1 in 3 teenagers in Canada have reported being bullied recently.  There are those whose voices are not heard.  On April 17th take a silent stand with the Chequity Club, by not speaking for 24 hours and show your support to all those around the world who don’t have a voice.  You can even go as far as to not use social medias or electronic devices for the whole day.  to sign up to participate in this event go to see Ms. Fludder in Room C34 at lunch.  Participants must be signed up before April 15th.  T. Eighteen Danforth student spent last Saturday at the Metro Science Fair.  The brought home medals!!  Congratulations to the following students; Turna Mallik  – Bronze; Anja BOotherstone and Calvin Veenkamp – Bronze; Noshen Atashe and Aninda Poddar – Bronze; Connor Gitt and Frank Nguyen – Gold and the Ryerson University Faculty of Science Award; Trevor McCourt – Bronze; William Rutherford and Lucy von Appen – Bronze and the Water Quality and Conservation Award; Rees Simmons and Isaac Ellmen – Silver; and Rosie Hadzipetros and Nelani Skantharajah – Bronze.     R. Prom tickets will be sold starting on Monday, April 14th.  Please come to the Guidance office during lunch with $80.00 to purchase your ticket.  Cash or cheques payable to Danforth Collegiate & Technical Institute will be accepted.  D. Levogiannis

The Intramural Ball Hockey schedule is now posted outside of Room Y02, the Phys Ed office.  All teams should check when they are playing.  Games start next week on Monday.  T. Beardwood
